Joseph Caleb was the fifth child of Daniel and Agnes. Daniel died in Ireland before they were able to set sail for Canada in 1847. Joseph bought 100 acres from his mothers 400. Called his land Altonville. Later changed it to Belfast, Ontario.
In 1869 he moved with his family to Lucknow and 10 years later moved to Sundridge, Ontario.
Joseph and Margaret Ann Irwin Alton had 10 Children.
They moved west with daughter Agness Mabel and farmed Partridge Hills district in 1899 or 1900. The rest of the family had already moved west.
Joseph and Margaret's 10th child, Agness Mabel Alton Petrie born December 13, 1881 in Muskoka, Ontario died February 10, 1952. We have not found either her or her husband Alex's grave site.
