The "Tweedsmuir" Book says: William McLachlan bought Lot 3, Concession 9 of Arran Lake township in Bruce County, ON. in 1866 in a School Sale Grant from the province of Canada, 100 acres for $200. William Grafton sold the N 1/2 of Lot 2 to Wiliam McLachlan for $2,000 in 1879. (Read indenture mentioning the land and "Blind Line.")
William McLachlan built a log "cottage style" house on the hundred acres. The front part of this house is still in use. (2012) An L shaped barn was built by McLachlan too.
In William McLachlan's family-his wife Ann Fraser had his sons William John (1860), Archie Fraser (1864), James A (1862), and Henry (1864). William's first wife died at age 29 in 1867. Elizabeth was born to a second wife, Esther Ann Brown.

William is noted with his brother Archie as a founder of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Burgoyne, Ont. Bruce Co, in 1862. We have pictures of Donald and Alex as church elders.
Atlas of Bruce Co, 1880, p. 80 says Williamm was a farmer, owned 150 acres, Con 9, lot 1. Post Office Burgoyne.
Census 1901, p.67, Bruce, Port Elgin, lists William McLachlan, b. 11 Jul 1827, as 73 years old, wife Esther, b. 4 Feb 1845, Lot 80-108, Page 10- 107.

In 1904 news article, " Mr William McLachlan intends to leave next week for Pincer Creek Alberta, where he will spend the winter with his daughter, Mrs Upshall, who returns with him" The Times, 10 Nov, 1904. Deaths McLachlan-at High River Alberta on Dec 5 William McLachlan formerly of Port Elgin in his 80th year. Both Henry and Mrs B Upshall reported Dr's in attendance, cause; paralytic stroke.
