SERVICES AT METHODIST CHURCH FOR HARRY A. COONEY
Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. funeral services for Harry A. Cooney were held from the Villisca United Methodist Church, Rev. Eldon Haworth was clergyman.
Organist was Mrs. Mabel Dunn with Mr. and Mrs. James Pierce and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gourley as flower bearers. Casket bearers were Earl Fryer, Adrian Andrew, Paul McCoy, Dean Stamps, Wesley Cooney, and Larry Stamps. Harold O'Riley an udon Shires were ushers. Graveside services were conducted by Iroquois Lodge No. 590 AF & AM Nodaway, with interment in the villisca Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home.
Harry A. Cooney was born January 27, 1903 in Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of Albert Cooney and Phoebe Smith Cooney. October 20, 1920 he was united in marriage to Lulu Mabel McCoy at Clarinda, Iowa. To this union 5 sons and 2 daughters were born. Leonard Cooney of Oakland, Iowa, Mrs. Reva Greenfield of Villisca, Joe Cooney of San Francisco, California, John Cooney of Villisca, and three others who preceded hi in death, Lyle and Kenneth Cooney, and Mrs. Lois Jean Bowen. He famed in this vicinity all his adult life, moving with his wife to their present home in Villisca in January of 1968. He died April 5, 1971 at the Greater Creston Community Hospital, Creston, Iowa. He was a member of Iroquois Lodge No. 590 AF & AM of Nodaway, Iowa and of Emblem Chapter No. 64, Order of the Eastern Star of Corning, Iowa.
He was the last member of his family; his parents, four brothers and 1 sister preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by 3 children and a son-in-law, Jarl Ladheim. Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, Mabel, four children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leonard (Pauline ) Cooney, sons-in-law, Murl Greenfield of Villisca and W. M. Bowen of Dallas, Texas, and his other relatives and may friends.
