Waddell Meekins was born tenth of twelve children on May 2, 1906 in Toano, Powhatan, James City County, Virginia to Jefferson and Alice Meekins, Sr. Although his birth name is Waddell everyone called him "Wardell." He spelled and signed his name this way which is the reason for this spelling on his headstone.

He met and married Mary Alice (maiden name unknown) some time early in the 1930's and they resided in Newport News, Newport News City, Virginia.

Waddell's occupation was working with horses employed as a stableman. Then early in 1940 they relocated to Lutherville-Timonium, Baltimore County, Maryland where he was employed as a servant. Lutherville became their new home until his passing.

No children were born into their union. Mary Alice had one son from a previous relationship named William B. Thomas who was also known as "Zep or Tommy" whom Waddell raised as his own. He was last known to be residing in Monkton, Baltimore County, Maryland.

Note:
Waddell Meekins name on his headstone is incorrectly spelled and his birth year is also incorrect.
