Hattie Meekins-Johnson gave love a third try when she and John Powell tied the knot and married. Although no children were born into their union they purchased a home on 13th Street in the Hollywood Section in Nansemond, Suffolk City, Virginia is where they both remained until Hattie's untimely passing.
On October 11, 1951 Hattie was admitted to Community Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia suffering from a Cerebral Hemorrhage, she passed away four days later on October 15, 1951 at 9:15 p.m. just two months shy of her 60th birthday.
