Lillian Meekins-Braxton was the eighth child born of twelve children on July 9, 1900 in Toano, Powhatan, James City County, Virginia to Jefferson and Alice Meekins, Sr.

Lill as she was affectionally known met Arthur Donovan Braxton, they were married on January 28, 1919 in Newport News, Virginia and from their union one daughter was born named Theresa "Tee." They resided in Toano, Virginia for a short time then early in 1920 they made their home in Newport News, Virginia but not long after they relocated their family of three to 126 West 127th Street in Central Harlem, Manhattan, New York County, New York City.

Not much is known about Lill but she became ill and unexpectedly passed away on June 4, 1927 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bronx, New York City. She was only twenty-six years of age and exactly five weeks shy of her twenty-seventh birthday leaving her eight year old daughter Tee and her husband Arthur to mourn her death.

Lill's body was shipped to her hometown in Toano, Virginia for her funeral and burial on June 9, 1927 along with many other family members in Chickahominy Baptist Church Cemetery.
