Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 28, for Chester W. Compton, 64, who died Sunday, October 26, at his home after an apparent heart attack. C.C. Hall, John Frank Ratliff, and Claude Preston were the officiating ministers for the 2 P.M. services in the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in Richmond Cemetery under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home. The son of the late John and Cora French Compton, he was born at Hewlett on November 14, 1904. He was a retired employee of the C&O Railraod and resided in King Addition at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Turner, a daughter, Mrs. Belva Honeycutt of Paintsville; two sons, Jack T. Compton of Columbus Ohio, and John F. Compton of Intssler, MI; 4 brothers, Jay and Dock Compton of Louisa, KY, Tom Compton of Rush and Blaine Compton of Columbus, OH; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lucy Layne and Miss Dixie Compton of Louisa; and 5 grandchildren.
