Funeral services for Lawrence County native Thomas Shannon Compton, 77, Rt. 1, Rush, were conducted March 16 in Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, Catlettsburg, by Rev. Frank Wallace. Burial was in Compton Family Cemetery on Blaine Creek. Mr. Compton died March 13 in Cabell Huntington Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Compton was born Aug 8, 1906, in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late John A. and Cora French Compton. He retired in 1971 from the Chessie System and was a member of Greenhill Lodge 521 F&AM; Greenhill Lodge 567 Order of Eastern Star; and East Fork United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Claudia Ellis Compton; three sons, William S. Compton of Milton, W.Va., James W. Compton, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Ted R. Compton of Athens, O.; a sister, Miss Dixie Compton of Ashland and seven grandchildren.
