༻✿ Meriel Anna Powell was the daughter of William Hon and Cora Heare Powell, born at home in Dolly Varden, Ohio now a part of Selma, Ohio.
Gr-Aunt Meriel finished the 8th grade of school when she quit school to go to work to help with the family finances at home. She became employed at the Robinson & Meyers company (R&M) in Springfield, Ohio where she made electric fans. She worked there until the 1940's when she was laid off. Her boss did not like women working outside of the home and he laid off all of the women, never calling them back to work again. (Women's working rights have come a long way since the 1940's!)
In 1936 Gr-Aunt Meriel married Leon Loe from Yellow Springs, Ohio and Gr-Grandma Cora Powell lived in the home with them, where they and Uncle John paid all expenses and Aunt Meriel cared for her mom until she passed. My mom told how almost every Satuday night Gr-Aunt Meriel and Gr-Uncle Leon would visit them on their farm. They always brought with them red skin peanuts, Spanish peanuts, Berger Beer, and 3 or 4 bags of different kinds of candy. My mom said good food and good company was had by everyone. Every summer my mom would go to visit with Gr-Aunt Meriel for several days and she would always take her roller skates. My mom would always enjoy skating up the street and back again on the sidewalk for hours. Once when Uncle Jack (my mother's brother) was little, around 2 or 3 years old, he went to stay at Gr-Aunt Meriel's for the day. He quietly slipped up the steps and went into her room where he got into the perfumed powder box sitting on the dresser. He got powder all over the place and himself, too. When his mother came to pick him up they found him siting in the bedroom covered in powder and with his big brown eyes sparkling he exclaimed,"I a poofy puff!" Neither could punish him as he was so cute. When my mom's parents moved to Gould City, Michigan to build their resort Gr-Aunt Meriel took my mom in so that she could finish her last year of high school in a good school and then attend bussiness college.
When I was little every year we would go to Gr-Aunt Meriel's for the Easter holiday and sometimes during Memorial Day. Everyone would gather, bringing food, and everyone always looked forward to her home made lemon cream and coconut cream pies. She was always a loving and welcoming hostess and loved by everyone in return.
When she passed away she died instantly from a heart attack. She was the glue of the family. When she passed away everyone's hearts broke and she is very missed to this day.

May Aunt Meriel ever rest in peace within the arms of our Lord.
