Albert Hjalmer Gran was born Oct 25, 1902 and died 11 days later on November 5, 1902. He was the second born of Anton Kornelius and Hannah Marie (Larson) Gran with ten siblings:

Casper Norman (1900-1988) m Olga Evenson, Norway Cemetery

Hjalmer (1903-1939), m Martha Evenson, Hjalmer at Norway Cemetery

Jeanette Carrie (1905-1933) m Melvin Berg both buried at Baltic, SD

Mabel Helen (1908-2004) m Gustaf Bonander, both at Bozeman, MT

Alice H (1910-1935) m Gunner Bonander, Alice at Norway Cemetery

Edward Magnus (1912-1994) m Gladys M Peterson, Miles City, MT

Lawrence Arthur (1914-1983) m Olive Stillman, Scotland, SD

Alvin J Gran (1916-1991) m Evelyn Fund, King County, WA

Emma (1918-1959) m Arthur C Aisenbrey, both buried at Menno, SD

Elmer Morris (1919-2011) m Fern Eldred Ellinger b1920

Albert Hjalmer's paternal grandparents are Kornelius Mortenson Gran (1841-1914) and Kari (Jonsdatter) Gran (1838-1921), both born in Norway. Both are buried at the SW corner of Bang Cemetery which is located nearby in rural Turkey Ridge, Turner county, SD.

Albert Hjalmer's maternal grandparents are Nikolai (1843-1881) and Johanna (Evenson) Gran (1860-1912) who were both born in Norway. Nikolai Larson drowned in the Jim River.

This picture of Albert's temporary marker was taken in 2008 at which time it was in perfect condition. However, during the summer of 2010, the 108-year old temporary marker was hit by a lawn mower and all the letters have fallen off. The location of Albert's grave is beside and directly to the left (north) of Hans and Netti Larson and 9 paces, approximately 27 feet, east of his parents Anton and Hannah Gran. Hans Larson is Hannah (Larson) Gran's sister. Directions are based on the road in front of the cemetery being the west side which is not accurate since the road does not run true north-south at the cemetery.

Since 1940, Norway Cemetery has been named "Our Savior's West Cemetery" which is part of Our Savior's Lutheran Church located nearby on Stone Church Road. This cemetery is in Yankton County but frequently referred to as rural Menno, SD. Latter Day Saints (LDS) genealogy records still refer to this as Norway Cemetery.

The Anton and Hannah Gran family has reunions every 2-3 years. Starting in 1980, these were organized every 5 years by Morris and Fern Gran with assistance from Eleanor & Verdon Chistopherson, etal. Starting in 2003, Gran Reunions have been hosted by Jerry & Deb Gran, Doug and Kate Gran family and Judy and Steve Marn with assistance from Robyn (Gran) Arens and Lori (Gran) Woehling and others. Our last reunion was June 25-27, 2010 in Sioux Falls.

We are always looking for more reunion attendees and genealogical information so will appreciate any comments or questions you may have.
