Death Takes Mother Here

On Tuesday afternoon of this week, Mrs. Gunnar E. Bonander passed away in this city. She came here a short time ago with her husband who is one of the construction crew on the Highway No. 10 east of town. Ten days ago she gave birth to a child at the home of E. B. Stair, and had been cared for by Mrs. Ray Elsenbart. She was apparently getting along nicely and was able to get up, the tenth day. She was seized with a heart attack and expired within a few minutes.

Mrs. Bonander was born in Hutchinson County, South Dakota and was 24 years of age at the time of her death. She is survived by her infant baby, another child about two years old, her husband, a sister who is here residing temporarily, and whose husband is a brother of Gunner E. Bonander. Deceased also has two brothers who are here working with the road crew.

The body will be shipped to Sioux Falls, SD for burial.

This death is extremely sad, as the mother and child were apparently doing so nicely, and were expected to return to their home shortly.

ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATION:

Then two-year old Florence A. (Bonander) Toft and baby sister Hazel L. (Bonander) Hoffman are the daughters of Gunnar & Alice (Gran) Bonander.

Gust & Mabel (Gran) Bonander were with Gunnar & Alice (Gran) Bonander in Wibaux, Montana in 1935. Alice's brothers Edward & Alvin Gran were also in Wibaux, Montana working in construction for Gust Bonander.

Edward subsequently operated gas stations and motels in Livingston, Bozeman and Miles City. Alvin later worked for Gust and Mae in their motel business before moving to Stanwood, WA and then Seattle where he worked for Boeing.

The picture of Gunnar & Alice was taken in Montana by Melvin Berg. Melvin's wife Jeanette (Carrie) Gran died on Feb 23, 1933 at the age of 28. Irwin, Murlene and Maxine are the children of Melvin & Jeanette Berg.

Alice was also survived by her mother Hannah (Larson) Gran and siblings Casper, Hjalmer, Mabel, Edward, Lawrence, Alvin, Emma & Morris. Alice was preceded in death by her father Anton and siblings Albert Hjalmer & Jeanette (Gran) Berg.
