Fred Beets, 74, De Soto, died Saturday, March 25, 1961 in the Gardner Community Medical Center. The son of Henry P. and Lide Miller Beets, he was born February 7, 1887 at Hillsdale and grew to manhood on a farm near there.

August 26, 1908 he was married to Clara Ethel Dunn and 11 children were born to them, all of whom survive. Mrs. Beets died January 15, 1946. Later, he married Emma Tisdale. Most of his life was spent on a farm northwest of Hillsdale which was homesteaded by his grandfather. The later years of his life were spent in businesses in surrounding towns in this community. He had been in poor health several years but was patient and uncomplaining.

Mr. Beets is survived by his wife of the home, four daughters, Mrs. Vivian Mays, Mrs. Pauline Smith and Mrs. Marjorie Boehm, all of Hillsdale, and Mrs. Jean Merrill of Loga, Utah; seven sons, Max of Olathe, Fred Jr. of Spearfish, S. Dak., Dean of Mission, Robert of McLean, VA., Rex, Bill and Kenneth, all of Hillsdale; one sister Mrs. George Fisher of Paola, 29 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Wilson and Son chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Robert Plank officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and burial will be in the Hillsdale Cemetery.
