George William Beets, 81, Paola, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Miami County Medical Center in Paola.

Known as "Bill" he was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Hillsdale. He was the ninth of the 11 children of Fred and Clara Ethel Dunn Beets. He attended grade school in Hillsdale and was a 1939 graduate of Spring Hill High School.

He and Mildred Ruth Jarboe were married Feb. 14, 1990, in Osawatomie. They lived in the same house where he grew up near Hillsdale and where he spent his entire life.

Mr. Beets worked as a plumber in Olathe for 20 years and was also a farmer.

He attended the United Methodist Church in Spring Hill.

His pasttimes were fishing and hunting.

Those preceeding him in death included five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Beets of the home; a brother, Fred Beets of Spearfish, S.D.; and a sister, Pauline Smith of Paola.

Services were Friday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, followed by burial in Hillsdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Beets, Gary Smith, Laurence Boehm, Vernon Beets, Dick Beets and Bryan Beets.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
