WEYERS CAVE -- Leonard Sylvester Strickler, 78, of Mt. Sidney died 6:20 a.m. this morning (May 13, 1975) at King's Daughters' Hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Born in Rockbridge County April 25, 1897, he was a son of James F. and Sallie (Swisher) Strickler.

Mr. Strickler lived in Greenville and New Hope until 1935 when he moved to Mt. Sidney.

He was formerly employed by Celenese Corp. and American Safety Razor Co. He was justice of the peace in Middle River District of Augusta County for a number of years. He was a member of VFW Post 2216 and World War I Barracks of Harrisonburg.

On Oct. 29, 1919 he married Thelma Odell Hawpe who died May 26, 1974.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. Lankford Brown, Harold E. and Leonard S. Jr., all of Mt. Sidney, and Hunter T. Strickler of Staunton; two sisters, Mrs. Antha S. Swisher and Mrs. Genevieve S. Kesterson, both of Greenville; five brothers, Floyd M., John F., and Boyd, all of Greenville, James A. of St. Cloud, Fla., and Walter B. Strickler of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the chapel of Lindsey and Koontz Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Pfeiffer. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 2216 and World War I Barracks of Harrisonburg.
