MRS. JACOB HUPP PASSES AWAY
Paulena Schreck, eldest daughter of William and Wilhelmina Schreck, was born in Tazewell County, near Pekin, Illinois, April 20, 1857 and passed away at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Archie Hull of Russell, Iowa, August 24, 1939, age 82 years, 4 months and 4 days.
She came to Iowa at the age of 11 years with her parents and settled on a farm 6 miles south of Chariton. She moved to Russell in February of 1914, where she lived until last November when she made her home with Mrs. Minnie Relph until March 26. She then came to the home of Mrs. Bertha Hull where she lived until the time of her death.
At the age of 15 she was united with the German Lutheran Church. She was a patient sufferer, always thinking of those near and dear to her rather than herself, and a firm believer in a home beyond, where all pain is wiped away. Her joy was in her home, her children and her grandchildren.
She was highly esteemed and respected by those who knew her as a neighbor and friend.
She was married February 14, 1883 to Jacob Hupp. To this union six children were born, all of whom are living. They are Samuel of Chariton, Mrs. Ann Vickroy of Centerville, Mrs. Minnie Relph of Russell, Newton of Corydon, Mrs. Bertha Hull of Russell and William of Denver, Colorado.
She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Sharp of Chariton, Mrs. Katherine Patterson of Russell and Mrs. Minnie Duckworth of Humeston; two brothers, Paul and Henry of Russell.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Jacob Hupp, one sister, Mrs. Anna Sassman and one brother, William.
Funeral services were held from the Russell Baptist Church at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.
