He married Dorothy Brekke (1913-1993) on 15 September 1934. They had three daughters and one son. He succumbed to congestive heart failure on 29 May 1984 at the age of 74, and was interred at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Services Friday, June 1, 1:00 p.m. at Lyndale United Church of Christ, 31st Street & Aldrich Avenue South. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
