obituary from Kilgore News Herald, Weds., March 1, 1967: Earl Melton Funeral Rites Set Thursday. Earl R. Melton, 64, operator of Melton's Help-Yourself Laundry for 18 years, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday in Roy H. Laird Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. B. G. Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.
Mr. Melton, a native of Christian County, Mo., had lived in Kilgore since 1949, when he moved here from Joplin, Mo.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gladys Melton; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Mitchell of Joplin; four sons, Don Melton of Odessa, Bob Melton and Max Melton both of Kilgore, and Rogert Melton of Garland, his mother, Mrs. Minnie Melton of Kilgore; four brothers, Everett Melton of Joplin; Mo., Harold Melton of Kansas City, Mo., Virgil Melton of Kilgore and L. G. Melton of Gridley, Calif.
Also two sisters, Mrs. Orville Cottrell of Tyler and Mrs. Amos Whisman of Henderson; three half-sisters, Mrs. Ira Bray and Mrs. Walter Marenholtz, both of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Oscar McGinnis of Ozark, Mo.; one half brother, Clifford Melton of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
