Birdie was the sixth child of Dr. Stephen D. and Lucy Ann Melton. She had fifteen brothers and sisters. She married Oscar McGinnis and their only child, a daughter, died in infancy. She spent most of her life in Ozark but did visit her sister in Seattle for a year in the 1950's. Birdie lived to be 86 years old.
