Kate Melton died at the age of 74, following a lingering illness. He was a resident of Ozark, Missouri and left a wife, May, and daughter, Ruth Melton Patterson. Funeral services in Webb City, Missouri were attended by his brother, Clifford and his sister, Birdie, and niece, Ramah Carson. His nephew Bob von Marenholtz recalled that Uncle Kate lived in Webb City, Missouri about 1948. He liked to tell stories and was a very likeable individual. He was remembered by his sister Lucy as having been a professional gambler at one time. He is buried in the Webb City, Jasper County, Missouri cemetery.
