Epp Melton, 59 years old, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at his home in Oronogo, where he had resided six years. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. S.D. Melton and was born and reared in Christian County near Ozark. He was the first to die of a family of 16 children. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Grace Melton; six sisters, Mrs. Oscar McGinnis and Mrs. H.D. Stubbs of Ozark, Mo.; Mrs. Ida Bray of Middleton, Ida.; Mrs. Walter Marenholtz, who lives in Germany; Mrs. Orvalle Cotrell of Seminole, Okla.; and Mrs. Amos Whisman in Texas; nine brothers, Kate Melton, William Melton and Earl Melton of Joplin; Cliff Melton of Ozark; Purd Melton of San Angelo, Tex.; Harold Melton of Springfield; Everette Melton of Cassville; Loyce Melton and Virgil Melton, living in California; and a stepmother, Mrs. S.D. Melton of Seminole. The Hedge-Nelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Christian County Republican, 9/16/1943)

Epp was the first of nine children born Lucy and Doc Melton; after his mother's death, his father remarried and had 7 more children. Epp and his wife Grace were living with his brother Bill in the 1920 census.
