Funeral services for Iva Marie McDonald, of Chariton, who died at the Yocum hospital on Friday morning, December 30, 1932, at eight o'clock, after a brief illness, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home Sunday forenoon at eleven o'clock, conducted by Elder Robt. Bingaman, followed by a service at the Coal Glen church in Pleasant township, with burial in the Coal Glen cemetery.
The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful, tender messages of love and sympathy. At the request of the deceased the following friends acted as pall bearers; Miles Mason, Jack Hook, Bud Carmody, Leslie Feigh, Cecil Hook and John McGinnis.
Iva Marie McDonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McDonald, was born in Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, on February 18, 1911, and at the time of her death had attained the age of 21 years, 10 months and 12 days. She attended the Russell schools and later took a course in beauty culture at a school in Chicago. At the time of her death she was conducting the Ideal Beauty Shop on the west side of the square.
About two weeks previous to her demise she was taken ill with the flu, which resulted in serious complications. She was rushed to the hospital where an operation was performed on Wednesday morning, but peritonitis speedily developed, and all that loving hands and the efforts of physicians could do proved unavailing, and she gradually sank until the end came.
She leaves to mourn their loss her father and mother, four sisters and two brothers, Mildred, Ethel, Opal, Thelma, Howard and Richard, all at the family home near Russell. Two little sisters preceded her in death.
Among those in attendance at the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Tony Jures, of Chicago, Ill., Miss Wretha Cline, of Omaha, Nebr., Miss Mary Gookin, of Corydon, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Baylor, of Bloomington, Illinois.
