OBITUARY

Richard Eugene McDonald was born to Charles and Sarah (Duckworth) McDonald on November 27, 1926 and passed away at the Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa on February 25, 2012 at the age of 85 years.

Richard attended public schools and later graduated from Chariton High School. He served in the Army from 1948 to 1951. He was stationed in Europe. Upon returning home, he married Shirley Sellers on September 16, 1951. To this union, six children were born: Steve, Stanley, Scott, Sheila, Sally and Sonnie. He loved having all of his children with him and they were a big help on the farm.

Throughout the years, Richard experienced various professions, like driving a school bus, rock trucks, and driving for Etter Trucking.

Richard later divorced and in 1981 married Grace Parrish. He acquired two more children from this union: step-daughters, Debra Davis and Linda Scholtus. Richard and Linda farmed together until 2005, when he retired.

McDonald get-togethers were one of his favorite times. That is when all of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would get together at the family farm.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Howard and Kenneth; his five sisters, Cleta, Iva, Mildred Parson, Ethel Deming, Opal Deming and Thelma Johnson; son-in-law, Joe Johnson and step-daughter, Debra Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; his children, Steven (Debbie) McDonald, Stanley McDonald, Scott (Dee) McDonald, Sheila (Rod) Wedner, Sally Johnson, Sonnie (Dave) Noble, and Linda (Rich) Sholtus; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
