OBITUARY

THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
Tuesday, August 4, 1964

Sarah Elizabeth McDonald, daughter of Lewis and Nancy Duckworth, was born at Russell, Iowa, on July 5, 1887. She passed away July 27, 1964 at the Boyd Nursing Home at the age of 77 years and 22 days.

She was united in marriage to Charles Edward McDonald on Oct. 4, 1908 and to this union were born nine children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles 12 days ago, two daughters and one son; Cleta Mae in 1910 at the age of 14 months; Kenneth Marvin in 1916 at the age of six weeks; Iva Marie in 1932 at the age of 21 years, also two brothers.

She is survived by six children, Howard of Ottumwa; Mrs. Mildred Parsons of Chariton; Mrs. Merle (Opal) Deming of Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. Willard (Ethel) Deming, near Chariton; Mrs. Ernest (Thelma) Johnson, Chariton; and Richard, near Russell; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lettie Maddy, Vista, Calif.; Grace Whittlesey, Chariton; three brothers, Walter and George of Chariton and Roy of Batavia, N.Y.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She became a Christian in her early life and was devoted to her church and family. She was a patient sufferer during her lengthy illness, but our loss is her great gain, and while our hearts are broken at the parting, we look up through our tears and say "The Lord hath given and the Lord hath taken away." We cannot bring her back but by God's grace we can go to where she is with her Redeemer.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 July 29, 1964 at the Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Homer L. Max officiated at the services. Interment was in the Coal Glen cemetery.
