Tuesday, November 2, 1982

Howard Leroy McDonald, 69 years, passed away Wednesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Ottumwa Manor Nursing Home.

The son of Charles and Sarah Duckworth McDonald, he was born October 19, 1913 in Russell and had farmed near Ottumwa since 1942.

On August 18, 1938 he was united in marriage with Colette Davis in Princeton, Mo. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1965.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Judy Schweitzer of Hedrick, Mrs. Carol Savage of Concord, Calif., and Mrs. Bonnie Jones of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; one brother, Richard of Russell; and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Parsons, Mrs. Opal Deming, Mrs. Ethel Pirtle and Mrs. Thelma Johnson of Chariton. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Roland; one brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Iva and Cleta.

Services were Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elmer Elzey officiating. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin Estes, Terry Handy, Charles Mullenix, Don Robertson, Dean Schuttlefield and Brent Thompson.

A memorial fund has been established by the family payable to the American Cancer Society.
