THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
November 3, 1953
Emery A. Duckworth, son of Lewis and Ella Duckworth, was born April 3, 1880 and departed this life on Oct. 26, 1953, at the age of 75 years, six months and 23 days, near his home in Pleasant township. He was united in marriage to Etta Umbenhower Shore on April 7, 1912.
He leaves to mourn his passing, besides his wife, two sons, Glen of Chariton and Donald of Tucson, Ariz., three daughters, Mrs. Tom McDonald of Williamson, Mrs. Henry Spahn of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs.Lysle Poush of Clarinda; three brothers, George of Chariton, Walter of Russell, and Roy of Batavia, New York; three sisters, Mrs. Lettie Maddy of Des Moines, Mrs. Charles McDonald of Russell and Mrs. Earl Whittlesey of Chariton; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was converted in a revival meeting at the Coal Glen church. He lived most of his life in Lucas county where he was engaged in farming.
He had been in ill health for several years, yet he could not be content unless he was busy. He knew the end was near and seemed to be looking for that better land where there is no pain or sickness. He was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor and will be missed in the home and neighborhood.
Services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Church of the Nazarene and also a short service at the Coal Glen church with the Rev. H.E. Hegstrom officiating.
Burial was in the Coal Glen cemetery.
