JENA, La., Sept. 29 (Special) — Death this week claimed one of the oldest and most widely known residents of LaSalle Parish — Mrs. Betty Foley, who had planned on October 7 to observe her 92nd birthday. She had been in good health, for her age, until a few weeks ago. She died Wednesday in an Alexandria hospital.

A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Foley, the former Betty McKithern [sic McKeithen], had lived in the vicinity of Jena since 19?6.

She is survived by a sister, 11 children, 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Among the children is Mrs. J. E. Thurmon of 601 South Fourth Street, a well known resident of Monroe.

The deceased had been twice married. Her first husband was Bob Windham, who preceded her in death by many year. Her second husband was Mike Foley. He died in 1913, and she spent the remainder of her life a widow, looking after the growth and upbringing of a large family, including some of the grandchildren.

The surviving sister is Mrs. Nettie Monroe of Grayson, La. The surviving children, in addition to Mrs. Thurmon, are: Robert, Able and Tom Windham, and Mrs. Dena Yancy, all of Jena; Mrs. Mae Kelly of Alexandria; Rush Foley and Mrs. Eva Tingle, both of Jena; Mrs. Eunice Jackson of Spring Hill, La.; Mrs. Edith Hinton of Winnfield; and Mrs. Ethel Windham of Jena.

Mrs. Foley was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Midway, where services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday with the Reverends Poston and Parker officiating. Interment followed in the family plot at Delah [sic Belah] Cemetery.
