Christoph Wiegert

On Dec. 11, 1920, the many friends of Christoph Wiegert were saddened by the news of his sudden death which occurred at 3 o'clock p.m., at his home. The death of Mr. Wiegert was wholly unexpected as he had been in good health. He was well known, being one of the first among the Lincoln county settlers.

Christoph Wiegert was born in Germany, Oct. 27, 1839, the son of Carl and Elizabeth Wiegert. He was married to Miss Sophia Warnickie(sic). To this union 10 children were born. Soon after marriage he came to this country and settled in Addison, Ill., in the year 1863. From there he came to Lincoln county, in 1879, and has lived here ever since. In the year 1882 he and seven others organized the first Lutheran church in this county south of town.

Sept. 25, 1913, he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He departed this life Saturday, Dec. 11, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days. The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. H. Kroening. A great number of relatives and friends accompanied the remains to the Lutheran cemetery where the body was laid to rest.

Those that mourn his loss are: his wife, five sons, W. Wiegert, H. Wiegert, F. Wiegert (of Texas), S. Wiegert (of Nebraska) and Ed Wiegert (of Washington); four daughters, Mrs. Farning [sic-Tarning], Mrs. Weber, Mrs. Steinhaus and Mrs. Springham, of Denver.
