George was the second of ten children born to Christoph and Mary (Warncke) Wiegert, before they came to Lincoln County (in 1879). He was in the first confirmation class of the church his father helped found, St. John Lutheran; this was in 1883 when he was 17 years old.

In 1888 he married Bertha Caroline Maria Lebien; they had three children:
Frank (aka "Doc"), 1891-1970.
Julia (who married Hugo Petschow), 1892-1984 and
Amanda (who married Wm. Maacke), 1894-1919.

Three years after his death, his widow married Robert Wohler.

WIEGERT.--George Wiegert, aged 28 years, 8 months and 12 days, died at his home in Elkhorn township, May 14, of a complication of bowel and stomach troubles, after an illness of three years.
He was born September 2 [sic], 1866, in Illinois, and had lived in this county for a number of years. He left a widow and three children, to whom he was always a very kind and affectionate husband and father. He was highly respected as a neighbor and citizen and seventy wagons followed his body to its last resting place. Funeral services were first held at the residence at 2 p. m., and at 3 p. m. at the German Lutheran church.
