Anna Tarning
Anna Sophie Marie Wiegert, youngest daughter of Christoph and Marie nee Warnke Wiegert was born April 19, 1877, in Des Plaines, Ill., and was baptized April 25 in the Lutheran Church.
In October of 1879 the family moved to Kansas and settled on a farm southeast of Lincoln. Sometime later St. John Lutheran Church was organized of which her parents were charter members. She attended the day school and renewed her baptismal vow in the rite of confirmation on April 10, 1892, and remained with St. John at Lincoln all her life.
On April 21, 1907, she was united in marriage to Barthel Tarning, moving to the farm which had been her home ever since. The couple was blessed with one daughter. After her marriage she cared for her aged parents in her home for 14 years. Her husband preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1962.
Perhaps not always in the best of health, she was very alert and took an active interest in church and community affairs, and had pride in keeping her home and yard attractive.
She became ill two months ago and seemingly on the road to recovery when 10 days ago she entered the Lincoln Hospital again and departed this life on Jan. 2 at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 14 days.
Survivors include her daughter, Metta, of the home, and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at the Hall Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Theo. Stolp. Interment was in the family plot in St. John cemetery.
