She married 'Hap' Piper in 1940. He died in 1982. She married C. Marion Anderson in 1983, which ended in separation.

                         DEATHS
    Virginia Piper, 79, died Feb. 21, 1999, at her home in Sheraton [sic], Iowa. She was born in Nebraska City, Neb., on April 4, 1919, to Herbert and Estella Davis Chaffee.
    She grew up and attended school in Hiawatha.
    She was married Feb. 1, 1940, to Harrell "Hap" Piper. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1982.
    Surviving are her six children, Harrell Jr., Michael, Rosanna Schroeder, Susan Woodsmall, Diane Gray and Douglas Piper; four sisters, Miriam Kowrack and Alberta Geistlinger, both of Lincoln, Neb., Lillian McCully of Tularosa, N.M., and Elizabeth Schrader of Hiawatha.
    Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Thalia Cain, Vivian Quinn, Bonnie in infancy, and Marcella Chaffee.
    Mrs. Piper has been cremated. A memorial service is being planned.

    Survivors include three sons, Harrell and Douglas, both of Chariton, and Michael of Clear Lake; three daughters, Rosanna Shrader of Florida, Susan Woodsmall of Olds and Diane Gray of Altoona; three sisters, 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
    A private service will be held at a later date.
    Arrangements were by the Cremation Society of Iowa.
