Stella married Herbert Chaffee at her parents home in Hiawatha, Ks. on Feb 14, 1905. They had nine children, all girls. One daughter (Bonnie) died at the age of 6 mths, the other eight daughter's lived out full lives. Lillian was raised by Herbert's sister Nellie Chaffee Weltmer.

—Stella Davis Chaffee, 103, former Hiawatha resident, died Tuesday, October 22, 1985 at a Lincoln, Neb. nursing home where she had resided for the past 10 years.
    Mrs. Chaffee was born in Hiawatha on Oct 2, 1882, the daughter of Jasper Newton and Emma Hulse Davis. She married Herbert Chaffee and they were the parents of nine daughters.
    She is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth Schrader, Hiawatha, Thalia Cain, Edwardsville, Ks., Miriam Kowrack and Alberta Geistlinger, both of Lincoln, Neb., Lillian McCulley, Tularosa, N.M., Virginia Anderson, Olds, Iowa; two sisters, Eunice Anderson, Yakima, Wash., Pauline Catuska, Ottawa; 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three daughters.
    Funeral services are pending in Lincoln, Neb.
