Obituaries
Elizabeth P. Schrader, 92, of Hiawatha, died late Monday evening, April 21, 2008, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where she had been a patient a few days. She previously had been a resident of Gran Villa Assisted Living for about four years.
She was born on a farm near Whiting, January 30, 1916, one of nine daughters of Herbert and Estella Lee Davis Chaffee, and lived most of her life in northeast Kansas. Elizabeth attended Hiawatha schools, later graduating from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1934.
Mrs. Schrader was a member of First Baptist Church of Hiawatha; and the Altruist Sunday School Class of the Church. She was also a member of the CLN Social Club.
She was married to Walter H. Schrader, February 28, 1937 at Hiawatha, by Reverend Blackledge. Walter died January 28, 2004.
Survivors include four sons Robert Schrader of Derby, KS, Keith Schrader of Andover, KS, Charles Schrader of Cameron, MO, Richard Schrader of Wichita; three daughters Louise Sager of Geneva, IL, Mary Furnish of Tujunga, California, Margaret Shannon of Hiawatha; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her parents; a son Stephen Schrader in April 2002; an infant daughter Jean Schrader; eight sisters: Virginia Piper, Lillian McCulley, Thalia Cain, Miriam Kowrack, Vivian Quinn, Marcella Chaffee, Alberta Geistlinger, and Bonnie Chaffee in infancy.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, at First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hiawatha. Greg Pudwell and Vern Finley will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
