Ernest William Fields, 88, of 401 Loudoun Ave., died Friday morning in the Grafton City Hospital in Grafton, W. Va. He was born March 31, 1896, in Beech Grove, a son of the late Robert Nelson and Ruth Dodd Fields.

He was a member of the Beech Grove Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nannie Noble Fields; two sons, Robert S. Fields and Paul M. Fields, both of Afton; three daughters, Mrs. James D. (Agnes) Lowe of Grafton, W. Va., Mrs. Lonzo (Edith) Payne of Greenville, Tenn., and Mrs. Louis (Temple) Ferrier of Waynesboro; one brother, Lester Fields of Beech Grove; one sister, Miss Marjorie Fields of King, N. C.; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Samuel W. Fields Sr.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Beech Grove Christian Church, conducted by the Revs. Linda Parker, J. D. Farries and James D. Lowe.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Lowe, Garth Fields, Quinton Fields, Glenn Fields, Richard Fields, Malcolm Fields, Worthy Thompson, Layman Dodd, Raymond Fitzgerald and McAuldman Campbell.

The body will remain at the McDowell Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 Sunday evening. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Temple Ferrier of 401 Loudoun Ave.

Additional honorary pallbearers will be Mathis Campbell, Basil Campbell, Bruce Dodd, Luther McGann and Dr. Robert Raynor.
