ROSELAND-Herman Courtney Fields, 81, of Roseland died at 4:15 a.m. today in Waynesboro Community Hospital.
Born in Nelson County May 2, 1891, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Ruth Dodd Fields.He was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church and a retired grower and farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Norma Davis Fields of Roseland; three sons, Garth C. Fields of Roseland, Quentin H. Fields of Lovingston, and Richard C. Fields of Charlottesville; five daughters, Mrs. Layman P. Dodd of Roseland, Mrs. Paul L. Shelton of Dillsboro, Ind., Mrs. Luther McGann Jr. of Roseland, Mrs. John F. Mahoney of McLean, and Mrs. James P. Mack of Wilmington, Del.; three sisters, Miss Marjorie Fields, Mrs. Ethel Campbell and Mrs. Herbert Lowe, all of Roseland; two brothers, Lester Fields and Ernest Fields, both of Roseland; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be David Dodd, Wendell Dodd, Keith Dodd, Daniel Fields, Granville Fields and Dennis Shelton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Fitzgerald, Raymond Fitzgerald, Maphis Campbell, Basil Campbell, Hewitt Falls, Melvin Dodd, Maxie Campbell, Thomas Campbell, Worthy Thompson, Clyde Fitzgerald, Pearson Duncan, Stanley McGann, Haywood Campbell, Jerry Falls, Willie Fitzgerald, Pete Falls, Mulford Campbell, B. C. Small, Dr. Robert Raynor, Johnny Falls and Hawthorne Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Beech Grove Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. J. D. Farries.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
