Agnes Fields Lowe, of Narrows, passed away Friday, September 13, 1996, following a long illness. The family would like to announce the celebration of her life. Born Agnes Viola Fields, she was the daughter of the late Ernest William and Noble Dodd Fields. She began her life September 23, 1918, at Beech Grove, Va., and was graduated from Rockfish School in 1935.


On October 21, 1939, she was married to the Rev. James D. Lowe Jr. Agnes lived in the Beckley area from 1939 until 1968, when she and her husband moved to Newport, Va. In 1976, they moved to Grafton, W.Va., where they have resided for the past twenty years. Agnes was a wife, homemaker, teacher, mother and servant of God. A member of the Christian Woman's Fellowship, she served as state representative and held the offices of secretary and president of local chapters. She was a past member of the Fellowship Class of the Beckley First Christian Church and worked devotedly with her husband's ministries at the Christian Churches for Crow W.Va.; Mt. Hope, W.Va.; Newport, Va.; Grafton, W.Va.; Core, W.Va., and Narrows Va. She retired from the First National Bank of Grafton in 1983.


Agnes was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Elaine; a brother, Samuel Wilson Fields, and a sister, Edith Constance Payne.


Her surviving family includes husband, the Rev. James D. Lowe Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Ethan and Sheri Lowe of Beckley, W.Va., and Steven Ernest and Connie Lowe of Christiansburg; eight grandchildren, James Robert, Steven E. Jr., Thomas Ryan, Terri Annette, Michelle Elaine, Suzanne Yvonne, Amy Elizabeth and Keri Elaine; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Nelson and Arlene Fields, and Paul McCoy and Earlene Fields; one sister and brother-in-law, Stella Temple and Lewis Gray Ferrier, and 23 nieces and nephews.


Agnes will be returned to her home church in Beech Grove, Va., for her final resting place.


Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.


Arrangements are by McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Va.


Agnes has celebrated her 78 years with many friends and associates, and the family extends their gratitude to them for sharing in and being a part of her life.
