SALEM-Samuel Wilson Fields Sr., 56, a former resident of Waynesboro, died yesterday morning in the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born in May 13, 1923, in Nelson County, a son of Ernest William and Nannie Dodd Fields.

He was a member of the Wayne Hills Baptist church, was formerly employed at the Associated Transport for more than 20 years and served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sons, Samuel W. Fields Jr., of Harrisonburg, Jay Fields, U. S. Marines, Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Michael Fields and Kevin Fields, both of Waynesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Connie) Reedy of Harrisonburg and Mrs. Carol Stallings of Waynesboro; two brothers, Robert S. Fields and Paul M. Fields, both of Afton; three sisters, Mrs. James D. (Agnes) Lowe of Grafton, W. Va., Mrs. Lonzo (Edith) Payne of Greenville, Tenn., and Mrs. Louis (Temple) Ferrier of Waynesboro; three grandchildren;and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of the McDow Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. J. D. Farries and the Rev. James D. Lowe. Interment will be in the Beech Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Nellysford.

Active pallbearers will be Stephen Lowe, Robert W. Fields, Jeffrey Fields, Quentin Fields, Cecil Fitzgerald and Carroll Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Smith, Ray Rexode, Lester Fields, Arthur Lowe, Worthy Thompson, Layman Dodd, Glenn Fields, Robert Dungan, Dale Brown and Lynn Fields.

The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 204 S. Winchester Ave., Waynesboro.
