The 1920 census shows his family in Lincoln Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. He was the son of Everett and Geneva Broyles. His father was born in Kentucky and he and his mother were both born in Illinois.

On October 31, 1963 a propane tank ignited and exploded at the Holiday on Ice show at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds Coliseum. Felix was among the 74 people who were killed that day.


His obituary from the November 3, 1963 Indianapolis Star:

Pittsboro — Funeral services for Felix L. Broyles, 52 years old, assistant Pittsboro postmaster, who was killed in Thursday (October 31, 1963) night's explosion at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Gregory Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the K. of P. Cemetery at Lizton.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Louise Broyles, who was injured in the blast; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Love, and a son, Lawrence Broyles, both of Pittsboro.
