Edward Kraft, Sr.died Sunday, March 26, 2000, five days from his 87th birthday. Ed was born in Worms, Odessa, Russia, on April 1, 1913, the son of Jacob and Anna Marie Kraft(who had a total of 17 children.) As an infant, Ed came to the United States with his parents and older brother, Herman,where they settled in North Dakota. They moved to Montana in 1925.
Ed married Frieda Martin on April 30, 1941, in Roundup, Montana. He started farming in Belfry, Montana, and in 1942, moved west of Billings where he farmed and was a rancher and dairyman until his retirement in 1973. During his retirement years, Ed enjoyed smoking and making his own sausage and hams in the smoke house. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling and assisting his family on their nearby farms. He loved livestock, especially horses and cattle and was often seen at the local auction yards. He was a lifelong member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Billings.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda, of 58 years; four sons, Edward, Jr. (Roxie); Richard (Sylvia); and James (Valorie) of Billings; Robert (Kayrene) of Laurel; one daughter, Peggy (Ervin) Wood of Laurel; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: Thursday, March 30, at Pilgrim Congregational Church. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens.
