MAE N. PLOOF CANDY STORE OWNER
Mae N. Ploof, 95, formerly of South Raquette River Road, died Friday at Highland Nursing Home.
Born July 25, 1903, in Massena, daughter of Orville and Mary Prashaw Carney, she attended Massena schools. Before her marriage, she worked at Aluminum Company of America.
She married Benjamin J. Ploof on Nov. 18, 1920, at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Benjamin Staie officiating.
The couple owned and operated Lamendola's Garage and Candy Store, Main Street and McClusky Avenue, for several years until selling the business in the late 1950s. They then moved to Paul Smiths, where they lived until moving back to Massena to live on South Raquette River Road. Mr. Ploof died May 31, 1990.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Marion R.) Bourdon, Massena; a brother, Downer Carney, St. Regis Nursing Home; a sister, Evelyn Pringle, California; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A son, James, died Oct. 24, 1937. Five sisters and three brothers also died before her.
