Mrs. Minnie Prashaw Carney, 84, of 2 Isabel Street, widow of Orville A. Carney, died about 10 o'clock Thursday night, April 17, 1958 at her home after a long illness.
She was born October 9, 1873 in the town of Brasher, the daughter of Marshall and Rose Ann Robillard Prashaw, and was educated in that area.
On June 12, 1891 she and Orville A. Carney were married in Brasher Falls. A short time after their marriage they moved to Massena and spent the remainder of their married life here. Mr. Carney died August 13, 1949 and before his death the couple observed their 58th wedding anniversary. Mr. Carney worked for the New York Central Railroad for several years, then operated cheese factories and was later foreman of the Beake's Dairy at Massena Springs, now the Dairymen's League plant.
Mrs. Carney was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart and the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association.
She is survived by 102 direct descendants, including seven daughters, four sons, 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Her daughters are Mrs. Vera Bennett, Mrs. William (Mabel) Dowe, Mrs. Sarah Brainard, Mrs. Evelyn Pringle, Mrs. Benjamin Ploof, and Mrs. Leo (Margaret) Donovan, Massena, and Mrs. Christopher (Mildred) Clark of Black River. Sons surviving are Lloyd, Charles, Claude and Downer Carney, all of Massena.
