He was born in Brasher September 8, 1873, a son of John and Sally Waite Carney, and married Miss Mary Prashaw, Brasher, on June 12, 1891. A little later they came to Massena and have resided here since.
Mr. Carney was employed by the New York Central Railroad for several years and later operated several cheese factories near here. He was at one time foreman of Beake's Dairy at Massena Springs.
Surviving are his wife, seven daughters, Mrs. Vera Bennett, Mrs. William (Mabel) Dowe, Mrs. Sarah Brainard, Mrs. Evelyn Pringle, Mrs. Benjamin Ploof, and Mrs. Leo (Margaret) Donovan, Massena, and Mrs. Christopher (Mildred) Clark of Black River. Sons surviving are Lloyd, Charles, Claude and Downer Carney, all of Massena.
