Sarah A. Brainard, 86, died on Sunday at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

She was born on March 5, 1896 in Brasher, the daughter of Orville and Mary Prashaw Carney. She was educated in Massena schools.

She married William Brainard on June 7, 1917. He died on March 10, 1944.

Surviving were three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Beulah) Boardman of Massena, Mrs. Francis (Evelyn) White of Massena, and Mrs. Elma LaForce of Chase Mills; two sons, William F. and John G., both of Massena; two brothers, Charles, and Downer Carney, both of Massena; four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Dowe of Massena, Mrs. Evelyn Pringle of Valejo; CA, Mrs. Mae Ploof of Massena, and Mrs. Mildred Clark of
Black River.
