Services for Esther "Nana" Addington, 98, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home in Lubbock. Burial will be at the Abernathy Cemetery in Abernathy, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home. Mrs. Addington died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.
Esther was born April 20, 1905 in Nevada, Texas to Andrew J. and Olive Green. She married John Alford Addington on Nov. 20, 1927 in Abernathy. Mrs. Addington is preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 12, 1980; her son, Don L. Addington on Sept. 9, 1963; and her brother and sister-in-law.
She moved to Lubbock in 1941 from Hale Center. Mrs. Addington was a devout Christian, who raised her children and her brother's children, Edna Robertson and E.L. Green. She was a member of the University Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Addington taught Sunday school, Bible class and was a member of the W.M.U.
Survivors include her nephew, whom she raised, E.L. Green and his wife, Jean Ann, of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Trina Addington of Lubbock; great-nieces, who are the daughters of the late Edna Robertson, Marla Robertson of Lubbock and Melody Davis of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, John Addington and his wife, Juli, Jacky Addington and his wife, Valerie, and Jerry Addington, all of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Jonathan A. Addington and Dylan Boyd, both of Lubbock; a niece, Charlene Hulen of Andrews, who had a very special place in "Nana's" heart; and numerous other nephews and nieces. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
