Andrew Jackson Gideon Green, his wife Olive, and children Mary Maude and Lura came to Texas in a covered wagon, specifically Hunt County between 1886 and 1888. They farmed and had at least 3 more children, and then between 1892 & 1897 they decided to try out the Oklahoma Territory where they were giving free land. Their sixth and possibly seventh children were possibly born in the Oklahoma Territory and died there. AJ decided to leave when a land grabber was forcing out homesteaders, and he knew it would come to a point where either he would have to kill the other man or the other man would kill him. They packed up and moved to Collin County, Texas where the last 6 children were born.

Leila married in Farmersville in 1916, so betwee 1916 and 1920 (the 1920 census shows the Green family to be living in Cottle County) the Green family packed up and moved to Cottle County, leaving their three oldest children in Collin/Dallas Counties (Maud married Robert Lee Bullock, Lura married William Henry May and Frank married Esthma Alice Wright). Leila and Sam Alexander, her husband, had moved away from Collin County (to Motley Co. & later Taylor Co., and then Hale Co., Texas) after their marriage in 1916. Pearl married Tige Hall in Cottle County in Dec 1922. However, In Cottle County, the Green family again ran into trouble. They had blacks that lived with them and helped with the farmwork. Cottle County was an all white settlement, and they did not want blacks there. A crowd came to the Green house calling for the blacks to come out. A J came out with a shotgun and said that the blacks would not be coming out. He told them he would take them back to Alabama himself, and he did. They then moved on to Hale County, their final home.

In 1927, Charles, Esther and Loyd all married in Abernathy, Hale County, TX. Carl left home, living in Sweetwater, TX in the 30's and working at the refinery. In 1929 the stock market crashed, the dust bowl hit in the 30's and AJ died in 1934.

Ollie died in Sweetwater, TX in 1942, but was buried in Hale County, TX next to her husband, AJ. Per Weldon Carl Green (son of Carl Raymond Green), Ollie was "visiting" with his family in Sweetwater when she died. It is believed that she had been going from one child's home to the next to live a short while.

Mom, Charlene Green Hulen, stated that she was 4 years old when Gid died. She remembers going to his funeral. She also remembers her cousin Gerald, who was also 4 years old, there. The parents lifted them up so that they could see their grandfather one last time. She said she remembers seeing Aunt Esther reach over and touch him lovingly.
