Catherine (nicknamed Kitty) was born on December 31, 1882 in North Tarrytown NY to Tully Slavin and Ellen Martin. The oldest daughter she was named for her maternal grandmother Catherine McMullen. She was baptized in St. Teresa of Avila's Church on January 1, 1883. Michael Kearney and Maggie Martin were her sponsors. She attended St. Teresa’s school in Tarrytown and Miller’s Business School in New York City. In 1904 she married Frederick Henry Grosse at the Church of Immaculate Conception (St. Marys) in Yonkers. Kitty was active in the Lady Mewes Circle, the Democrat Club and the Rosarian Society of St. Peter’s the family church in Yonkers.
The Grosse’s would live out their lives in Yonkers and become the parents of six children: (Elinor) Hazel, (Ethel) Marjorie, John E., T. Kenneth, C. Shirley, and Doris M. Their three daughters would marry in quick succession in 1942 at the start of WWII.
Catherine died December 2, 1957 after a short illness.
