Daws Powers Sr.
Ammie Daws Powers Sr., 83, of Crossville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville after a lengthy illness.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, with pastor and friend Johnny Goldston officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mr. Powers was born March 29, 1925, in Maple Grove, TN, to William Harden Powers and Malissie (Clark) Powers.
He served his country in World War II, enlisting in the Army June 17, 1943. He was awarded four bronze stars and a Purple Heart after being wounded in France in July of 1944.
He returned home from the war in October of 1945 and met his wife, Sue (Carter) Powers. They were married Nov. 9, 1946.
Mr. Powers worked for Volunteer Energy Cooperative for 32 years. He retired in 1978 due to bad health. He then worked at Plateau Bowling Lanes for 10 years before completely retiring. He joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1990, where he was a faithful servant and deacon.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue (Carter) Powers, one son and daughter-in-law, Ammie Jr. and Debi of Florida, one daughter, Sharon Cullop of Knoxville, seven grandchildren, Daws, Daniel and Richard Powers, all of Florida, Josh Yates and Tabitha Ivey of Knoxville, Steve Grant and Wendy Davenport of New Hampshire, 10 great-grandchildren, Jonah and Sydni Powers and Andrew Powers, all of Florida, Aiden Ivey and Morgen Yates of Knoxville, Kylie, Olivia and Jacob Grant, Brook and McKenzie Davenport of New Hampshire, one sister-in-law, Ruth Powers of Decatur, TN, and longtime friends, Ed and Betty Miller of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Belle Walden, Amanda Ward, Carrie McHone and Dorothy Price, five brothers, Charlie, Henry, Jess, Carl and Ammie's twin, Sammie, and son-in-law, David A. Cullop.
Mr. Power's grandsons served as pallbearers.
