August H. Brandes Appleton Post Crescent January 7, 1927

August H. Brandes, 74, died at 5 o'clock Thursday at this home in Hilbert. He was born Feb. 17, 1852 at Wittmer, Hannover, Germany and came to America on July 30, 1859. He lived at Mt. Calvary for a year and moved to Rantoul in 1870. On April 10, 1885, he was married to Auguste Zarnke at Reedsville after which the couple moved to a farm in the town of Woodville where they lived for 30 years. Twelve years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Brandes moved to Hilbert.

The survivors are his widow, three daughters,Mrs. Freda Hachbart, Mrs. Anna Lautenschlager and Mrs Emma Loos of Hilbert; three sons, Herman of Hilbert, William F. Brandes and Louis of Collins; one brother, William, Brandes of Hilbert; two sisters, Mrs. Jake Keller of Chilton and Mrs. Oscar Hedrich of Rantoul. Thirty-two grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon from the home and at the Lutheran church at Hilbert. The Rev. H. E. Henscke will conduct the services.
