John died during the Spanish Flu Epidemic. Cause of death was listed on his death certificate as Cerebro Spinal Meningitis. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery on May 31, 1918.

"John A. Woodman
After a short illness John A. Woodman, of Fourteenth street, passed away at his home last night at the age of 60 years. Mr. Woodman has been a resident of Riverside for the past 29 years, though he has engaged in no business here, coming from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1889, where he was in the hardware business.
The deceased leaves, besides his widow, five brothers, Frank Woodman, with the California Iron works of this city; C. A. Woodman, of Los Angeles, F. A. Woodman, of Spokane, and Robt., Woodman of Cleveland. there are also three sisters, Mrs. Fred Stebler, Mrs. Rose Gose and Mrs. Lizzie Sieber, all of Riverside, and his mother, Mrs. Jessie Woodman.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Episcopal church, Rev. M. C. Dotten officiating. Interment in Evergreen cemetery."
Note: the obituary states five surviving brothers but only names four. He was actually survived by six brothers with Walter Hubert and Ernest Arthur being the missing names.
