Frederick Alfred Woodman was a son of Robert Alfred Woodman and Lucretia Jessie Southby Woodman. He served in Company F, 5th Regiment Ohio Infantry during the Spanish American War.

Fred married Bessie K. Bartholomew on December 22, 1898 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. They were the parents of two known children: Alice Grace and Eileen Clare Woodman. Both children were born in Spokane, Washington.

Fred was a printer and engraver as well as a tinner (tin smith). After he married Bessie, they moved to Chicago where they were living during the 1900 census. By 1904 they were in Spokane where their daughters were born. He was listed as a clerk in the Spokane City Directory. Sometime between 1917 and 1919 the family moved to San Diego, California. By 1920 they were living in Riverside County when the census was taken. Fred remained in Riverside County until he entered the VA Hospital in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California where he died after a long illness.
