Married Robert Alfred Woodman on September 10, 1853 in St. George Parish, Camberwall, Greater London, London, Surrey, England. They were the parents of eleven known children: Robert Joseph Matthew; John Augustus; Francis "Frank" William; Rosina "Rose" Jessie (all born in England); Walter Hubert (born in Canada); Eliza "Lizzie" Ann; Ernest Arthur; Grace; Frederick Alfred; Charles; and Eva Violet (all born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio).

Robert and Jessie came with their family from England to Canada, where Walter was born, sometime between 1862, when daughter Rosina was born, and 1864, when son Walter was born. From a biography written by a granddaughter of Rosina, the Woodman family came to the United States when Rosina was 3 months old though, so far, this has not been verified. Sons Robert, John, Frank and Walter all became naturalized citizens and each gave a different year from coming to the United States and all were just young boys at the time. Since Walter was born in 1864 in Canada, the date of arrival in the United States is up for debate.

Jessie stated in the 1900 Census, Riverside County, California, that she was the mother of fifteen children with nine living. So far, I have uncovered eleven children. It may be that the other four were born in England, Canada and/or in Ohio, United States.

“In Memoriam

Lucretia J. Woodman

Lucretia J. Woodman, 88 years old a resident of Riverside, passed quietly away yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Sieber, 1050 Pine street. No funeral arrangements have yet been made pending arrival of word from another daughter, Mrs. Rosina Gose who lives in Sacramento.

Mrs. Woodman was born in London, England, June 19, 1834. Following the death of her husband, Robert A. Woodman, about 44 years ago, she came to Riverside 25 years ago where she has since made her home. For some time prior to her death she had been living with her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Sieber, at 1050 Pine street.

She was a member of the First Methodist church of Riverside and despite the fact that she had been practically an invalid for some time, her strength of will kept her from being confined to her bed until last Monday morning. During her residence here she had made many friends who will be sorry to hear of her death.

Mrs. Woodman is survived by eight children, 23 grand children [sic] and 26 great grand children [sic], most of who live in Riverside and Southern California. Children who survive her are: Robert J. Woodman of Cleveland, Ohio; Frank W. Woodman, Ontario, Cal.; Rosina Gose, Sacramento; Walter H. Woodman, Riverside; Mrs. E. A. Sieber, Riverside; E. A. Woodman, Long Beach; F. A. Woodman, Riverside; Mrs. Eva Stebler, Riverside.”

Second son, John Augustus Woodman, died in 1918 before Jessie died. Pneumonia was given as cause on his death certificate but he likely died from the Spanish Flu plaguing the world at that time.
